I'm a huge fan of historical illustration. Osprey Publishing (although in many cases takes wild liberties in historical interpretations of different kinds) make fantastic books with many beautiful plates for example.

I've started a project of my own. This is a swedish grenadier, probably a vet. with a de la Gerde regimant styled hat. Here's the first:
